Get a taste of Sigma School through our Coding Basics Experience, by collaborating with other students/applicants to build the skills you need to succeed in the rest of the application and take your first step into the world of software!

Read more about the Coding Basics Experience: A series of steps you can take to learn enough about coding to complete your application to Sigma School. What is the Coding Basics Experience? Coding Basics Experience is a set of learning resources distributed in a curated virtual world. Going through this virtual world, you will build a stronger foundation in software development, web development, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. You'll also meet other applicants and coordinators throughout Coding Basics, which will help you learn in a collaborative and interactive way.

While Sigma School doesn't require you to have any prior coding experience, we do need all applicants to have the same baseline knowledge that we assess during the Coding Challenges.

There are two very strong reasons for Coding Basics to be part of your application journey.

1️⃣ To level up your technical skills

Coding Basics has been designed to allow applicants will little to zero experience in coding, to learn what they need to pass the coding challenges in the application to Sigma School.

2️⃣ To learn what Sigma School will be like as a stude

What are the attendance requirements like?

Sigma School’s learning process is broken down into multiple steps. The compulsory one will be the weekly session led your module leader. Here are a few of our compulsory and non-compulsory sessions.

Jumpstarter sessions led by you (compulsory)
Jumpstarter sessions by other Student Jumpstarters (not compulsory)
Weekly Coaching Sessions by Sigma School’s Programme Leaders for the modules/courses that you are a part of (compulsory)
Mentorship sessions you scheduled (compulsory)
Pair Programming sessions with your Partner (compulsory)
Networking events (not compulsory, but highly recommended)
Q&A sessions with Industry experts (not compulsory, but highly recommended)

If you have an accountability partner or if you are a student jumpstarter, you will also need to join in on the pre-agreed timeslots.

Besides that, all other live sessions are not compulsory, though they are strongly recommended.

Fundamentally, Sigma School does not impose a strict attendance policy. We go on a mastery-based learning methodology where we focus on your ability to produce results and understand learning materials by excelling in the capstone projects. So ultimately, that comes first.

Will I get a certificate once I graduate?

Definitely! We provide a certificate upon your completion and graduation from Sigma School.

You will be able to use the certificate and link it to your social media profiles, your CV, as well as using it as an accelerated track for interviews with our hiring partners.

However, the certificate is not accredited by a governing body.

Not to worry though, the best employers out there don't care whether or not you have an "official" degree. What matters to them is that you know how to get the job done.

By studying at Sigma School and completing the program, you will have the technical skills, soft skills, tenacity, and determination that many accredited programs can't boast. Additionally, you'll have a large portfolio to help showcase your skills.

No full-time teachers 👩🏻‍🏫 Our students learn as real developers do: by coding and collaborating, based on the materials, curriculum and projects set out by the Programme Leads, Module Leads & Student Jumpstarters. They spend almost the their entire journey with us meeting, collaborating, and getting support from fellow students/alumni and mentors!

100% remote 💻 All our school's interactions are 100% remote and happen with other students/alumni within Sigma School. Our students leave Sigma fully prepared to join remote and diverse global teams. That's our a goal we're actively trying to achieve! Everything we do is with the intention of integrating remote-work best practice into our day-to-day education operations!

Flexible, mastery learning 🔥 Our program is also much more intense and rigorous than most other schools. Although we don't impose a forced full-time/part-time schedule and allow students to do either, our model is designed to accommodate and get our students used to learning challenging material and following a holistic, deadline-driven curriculum that continuously pushes them outside of their comfort zone.

Free if you don't get get a job 💵 If our students fail to monetise their skillsets after they graduate, we will give them 100% of their money back. That's our promise. We don't get paid unless they do, too.

What is Sigma School's support system like?

Along your programming journey, you will inevitably need to ask questions in an online coding community like ours, or in conversations with your colleagues. While asking questions may seem rather simple, in a programming environment it is essential to ask well formed questions with as much context as needed so you can get the most out of asking for help. In essence, “help others help you!” This lesson will provide you with the tools to effectively ask questions in communities such as our Discord chat, Stack Overflow, and in the workplace!

Unveil the support structure that will help you succeed as a Sigma student. Part of what makes Sigma School so great is our growing community and students and staff who are here to support you on every step of your Sigma journey and beyond. This article explains the different support roles at Sigma School and who holds them.

Learn with your Batchmates 📚

Your Batchmates are your core support group. Think of them as your classmates, a small group of other students that will be going through the same learning experience that you are at approximately the same time. You will meet with your Batchmates once a week to give and receive code reviews, discuss what you achieved that week and seek help for anything you're blocked on.

Get to know your Mentor 🙋‍♂️

This will be another student that is more advanced in the program or Sigma School's internal staff members. Your mentor is your hero within Sigma School. They will be your motivation
